Abstract

We have proved that involute-cycloid composite tooth profile spur gear was superior to involute spur gear regarding the surface durability and the tooth bending strength. In this study, we measured gear loss by the oil immersion formula using the involute-cycloid composite tooth profile spur gear and the involute spur gear, and we discussed on the power transmission efficiency of involute-cycloid composite tooth profile gear. Consequently, the tooth surface friction loss of the involute-cycloid composite tooth profile spur gear was about 40% less than the involute spur gear, and it was identified that involute-cycloid composite tooth profile spur gear was superior to involute spur gear on the power transmission efficiency.
