Abstract
One novel unsymmetrical bisamide extractant, N,N’-dimethyl-N,N’-didodecyl diglycolamide (DMDDDGA), with different alkyl substituents attached to amidic N atom was synthesized and used to evaluate its extraction capability of uranium nitrate. The extraction behavior of uranium nitrate in nitric acid was studied with 0.10 mol dm−3 DMDDDGA/kerosene. DMDDDGA exhibits high extraction ability for uranium nitrate due to its methyl, the smallest alkyl, which results in lower steric hindrance in the complexation with uranium ion. The stoichiometry of DMDDDGA-U(VI) was determined by linear regression analysis of extraction data. The effect of the concentration of nitric acid and nitrate salt, and the temperature on the extraction was investigated.
