Abstract

Modeling of DC-DC Cuk converter pose complexity as it involves switching stages which makes it a nonlinear system. Also, it contains four energy storage elements which make it a complex fourth order system. To have a better understanding of any system it is necessary to have its mathematical model so as to study their dynamic behavior, transient response, small signal characteristics. In this paper detailed mathematical modeling of a DC-DC Cuk converter operating in continuous conduction mode is presented. First an averaged large signal model is obtained using State-Space averaging approach. Then steady state model and small signal model are obtained by linearization from which various transfer functions of Cuk converter can be found for control design. The validation of model is done by simulating a physical model of Cuk converter using PSIM simulator and comparing the results with output of mathematical model obtained in MATLAB Simulink.
