Abstract

A new area populated by Heterozostera tasmanica (Martens ex Aschers.) den Hartog was discovered in Caleta Chascos, Salado Bay (27° 40′ SL), Chile. This discovery extends the present distribution of H. tasmanica from Puerto Aldea, Tongoy Bay (30° 16′ SL) to Caleta Chascos. H. tasmanica forms a 1–4-m-deep subtidal bed having a local, patchy distribution. Plants collected were up to 0.9 m in height; biomass in the patches was on average 1506 g dry weight (DW) m −2. No reproductive structures were observed.
