Extending UTAUT3 with Sharia value to predict SOTS adoption among Gen Z
This study extends the UTAUT3 model by incorporating Sharia values to predict Generation Z's adoption of the Sharia Online Trading System in Indonesia, finding that effort expectancy, price value, and Sharia compliance positively influence behavioral intention and use behavior, with some unexpected negative relationships.
Purpose – This study analyzes the influence of behavioral intention and use behavior on the use of the Sharia Online Trading System (SOTS) among Generation Z investors in Indonesia by extending the UTAUT3 model through the Sharia value variable.Methodology– This study employed structural equation modeling (SEM) using SmartPLS 4.1 software. Data were collected from 250 Generation Z investors across Indonesia through a purposive random sampling technique based on specific criteria.Findings – Effort expectancy, price value, and Sharia value had a significant positive impact on behavioral intention. Similarly, habit, performance expectancy, sharia value, and effort expectancy significantly influenced use behavior. In contrast, social influence, facilitating conditions, and hedonic motivation did not significantly affect either intention or use behavior. Notably, there was an unexpected negative relationship between behavioral intention and use behavior, indicating a complex dynamic that requires further investigation.Implications – This study reinforces the UTAUT3 model within the context of sharia digital finance and emphasizes the importance of effort expectancy, price value, and religious compliance in driving adoption. From a practical perspective, SOTS providers should focus on enhancing effort expectancy and integrating Sharia values to attract young Muslim investors.Originality – Sharia values are integrated into the UTAUT3 model to examine Generation Z’s adoption of the Sharia Online Trading System (SOTS). This integration addresses a research gap concerning behavioral factors in Sharia fintech within emerging markets.

Purpose This paper aims to explore the integration of technology platforms of Fintech service providers in Bangladesh and its outcome on the users’ acceptance and intention to use it. It has considered Bangla QR, a Bangladesh-specific unified payment platform, for the said purpose. Design/methodology/approach The study investigates the usage and acceptance of Bangla QR’s financial service application by collecting data on user demographics and usage patterns. The data have been collected from Bangla QR users who have firsthand experience using a unified payment system in Bangladesh. Structural equation modeling (SEM) has been used to analyze the data and investigate the relationships between latent constructs, such as Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), Social Influence (SI), Facilitating Conditions (FC), Hedonic Motivation (HM) and Behavioral Intention (BI). Findings Results reveal that the experience of users from earlier platforms and their expectation of improved technologies have a positive and significant relationship with the behavior intention of users regarding the acceptance of a fresh fintech platform. Specifically, PE, EE and FC have a significant effect on HM. Moreover, HM mediates the relationship between PE and BI, EE and BI and FC and BI. Startlingly, SI does not affect HM and BI. Research limitations/implications The study posits that users of Bangla QR are embracing the unified payment scheme willingly. Experience with new technology in the financial aspects has given them the confidence to continue this in the future. However, social awareness about the intrinsic worth of unified payment should be raised by financial institutions and regulators in Bangladesh. The lack of Bangla QR’s accessibility limits the number of respondents, and its newness hinders the researchers from focusing on price value and habit constituting BI. Originality/value First, this is the first paper to explore the fintech users’ intention to continue a unified payment platform in Bangladesh. Second, it uses the UTAUT2 model with modifications as per the requirement of the study. Finally, this study theorizes specific reasons to develop the overall scenario of a unified payment system in the future in Bangladesh.

The aim of this study is to determine the behavioural intentions and actual usage of online learning apps through the lens of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, which is a synthesis of numerous theories and models and is most commonly used to examine technology adoption behaviours. The study has utilised an exploratory research design, and data were collected using a questionnaire survey. The items used for establishing the questionnaire to measure the study constructs are adopted from different valid studies conducted previously. The current study examines the role of various factors, including performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivations, price value, and habits on the behavioural intentions of Saudi students using online learning apps. The data were collected from 245 Saudi university students and then analysed using structural equational modelling. The results highlight that an emphasis on all the theory elements, including performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivations, price value, and habits, can positively lead to behavioural intention to use online learning apps, leading in turn to actual usage. Although these results can be put into the context of future studies, the study encourages practitioners, policymakers, and educational designers to focus on performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, habit, price value, and hedonic motivation when designing and adopting online learning apps for Saudi university students. The study evaluated factors influencing port users’ intentions to participate in Financial Technology (Fintech) in the ports of Ghana. The study used non-experimental quantitative correlational design and the Extended Unified Theory of the Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) as the theoretical foundation to assess whether performance expectancy (PE), behavioral intention (BI), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC), hedonic motivation (HM), price value (PV), and habit (HT) were predictors of the intention of port users to participate in a Fintech program with age as a moderating factor. The sample comprised 407 individuals who work in the port industry and are between 18 and 64 years old; these were randomly selected through the SurveyMonkey platform. The study used principal component analysis (PCA), confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling to analyze and report the results. Findings show that PE, EE, and HT were predictors of the behavioral intention of port users to participate in a Fintech in the maritime and ports in Ghana. FC, SI, HM, and PV values could not predict BI for port users to enroll on a Fintech program. Neither did age have a moderating effect on the predictors variable influence on behavioral intention. This study offers a deeper insight into the adoption of Fintech in the port industry and sub-Saharan Africa. The findings can help researchers explain the variations in the UTAUT2 theoretical framework predictions relative to different sectors and disciplines. Researchers who intend to use the UTAUT2 theoretical framework to influence port users BI to enroll in the Fintech program will now consider PE, EE, and HT the most effective adoption factors. From a practical perspective, the study will help managers and stakeholders in ports in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa focus on the critical constructs as the first steps to implementing a Fintech program. On the other side, port users will also understand their role relative to performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and the habit to cultivate toward Fintech.

This study examines the factors influencing the adoption of LanGTa, an AI-powered chatbot developed to support historical tourism, through the lens of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) framework. Data were collected from 427 participants (51% male, 49% female) via structured surveys, focusing on core constructs including Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), Social Influence (SI), Facilitating Conditions (FC), Hedonic Motivation (HM), Price Value (PV), and Habit (HT). Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze the relationships between these constructs and Behavioral Intention (BI) to adopt LanGTa. The model demonstrated an excellent fit, with indices such as CFI = 1.00, GFI = 1.00, RMSEA = 0.00, and SRMR = 0.02. PE and EE emerged as the strongest predictors of BI, indicating that perceived usefulness and ease of use significantly influence adoption. HM was also a significant factor, particularly among male respondents, suggesting that enjoyment enhances the intention to use the chatbot. SI had a weaker yet statistically significant effect, especially among females, highlighting the influence of peer recommendations. Notable gender differences were observed: females prioritized PE, EE, and SI, whereas males emphasized EE, FC, HM, and PV. These findings underscore the importance of gender-sensitive strategies for promoting AI chatbot adoption. Digital transformation in the banking sector has prompted Bank BJB to develop its BJB Digi mobile banking service. However, despite an increase in the number of users and digital channel penetration, transaction frequency growth has slowed, and user reviews are still dominated by complaints related to technical issues, features, and service fees, indicating a gap between the potential of BJB Digi and the actual adoption rate among customers. This study aims to analyze the influence of the constructs of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 3 (UTAUT-3), namely performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habit, and personal innovativeness on the behavioral intention and use behavior of BJB Digi customers. The research approach used is explanatory quantitative with a survey method, through an online questionnaire to 415 BJB Digi customer users selected using the non-probability purposive sampling technique, and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions have a significant effect on behavioral intention, while facilitating conditions, habit, personal innovativeness, and behavioral intention have a positive effect on use behavior, with effort expectancy having an indirect significant effect on use behavior through behavioral intention, while the other constructs are not proven to be significant. These findings confirm that the success of BJB Digi adoption is mainly determined by perceived benefits, ease of use, facility support, usage habits, and customer innovativeness, while reinforcing the relevance of the UTAUT-3 model in explaining mobile banking usage behavior at regional development banks. Keywords: Mobile banking, UTAUT-3, BJB Digi, behavioral intention, use behavior, personal innovativeness.

This study aims to analyze the determinants of intention to use the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) on mobile banking users of Islamic banking by integrating the religiosity variable as a moderator in the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 3 (UTAUT3) model to predict user intentions and behavior. UTAUT3 consists of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habits, and personal innovativeness as determinants of intention and behavior using QRIS mobile banking. A total of 255 respondents were selected as samples using the purposive sampling method. This study uses a quantitative approach with SEM-PLS (Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Squares) analysis using SmartPLS software version 3.0. Empirical results show that social influence, facilitating conditions, price value, habits, and personal innovativeness significantly positively affect behavioral intention to use QRIS mobile banking in Islamic banking. Conversely, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and hedonic motivation do not have a significant effect on this intention. In addition, behavioral intention, habits, and personal innovativeness are proven to have a significant positive influence on the actual behavior of using QRIS mobile banking in Islamic banking. However, facilitating conditions do not have a significant effect on usage behavior. Religiosity as a moderating variable is unable to moderate the relationship between behavioral intention and actual behavior of using QRIS. The implications of this study are to provide insight for the Islamic banking industry to develop marketing strategies based on social values and personal innovativeness and to facilitate users with conditions that support QRIS adoption. This study also contributes to developing consumer behavior theory through a more comprehensive integration of UTAUT3 in the context of Islamic banking.

This research emphasizes the examination of factors influencing behavioral intention to use a Geographic Information System (GIS) for coastal marine resource management in Bandon Bay, Surat Thani Province. The study employs a survey research design with a population comprising residents along the Bandon Bay coastline. A sample of 398 participants was selected through simple random sampling using a questionnaire (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.857). The research utilizes an extended the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT 2) model with seven factors: Behavioral Intention (BI), Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), Social Influence (SI), Facilitating Conditions (FC), Hedonic Motivation (HM), and Price Value (PV). Data analysis was conducted by using mean, standard deviation, correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings reveal that Behavioral Intention is the factor with the highest mean level, with an overall mean in the highest category (x̄ = 4.623, S.D. = 0.447), followed by Price Value with an overall mean also in the highest category (x̄ = 4.612, S.D. = 0.464). The remaining five factors have means in the high category: Social Influence (x̄ = 4.474, S.D. = 0.658), Performance Expectancy (x̄ = 4.463, S.D. = 0.515), Hedonic Motivation (x̄ = 4.376, S.D. = 0.506), Effort Expectancy (x̄ = 4.366, S.D. = 0.446), and Facilitating Conditions (x ̅ = 4.154, S.D. = 0.504), respectively. The multiple regression analysis results indicate anvalue of 0.637, accounting for 63.70% of the total variance from five factors. This demonstrates that Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, Facilitating Conditions, and Hedonic Motivation have statistically significant effects. The resulting predictive equation is as follows: BI = 1.463 + 0.540(PE) - 0.126(EE) + 0.200(SI) - 0.042(FC) + 0.088(HM). The findings can be applied to support the development of a geographic information system for managing marine and coastal resources in Bandon Bay, Surat Thani Province. The system development should focus on the factor weights specified in the predictive equation.

PurposeThis study aims to explore the factors affecting investment behaviour in cryptocurrencies among Jordanian investors. Specifically, it aims to assess how various motivational and behavioural drivers impact the intention to use cryptocurrencies, grounded in the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) framework. The choice of Jordan as the research context is particularly relevant due to the lack of adequate regulations on cryptocurrency investment.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses a quantitative research approach, using an online survey as the primary method for data collection. The final data set consists of 285 responses collected through a self-administered questionnaire to cryptocurrency users in Jordan. Next, structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the developed theoretical framework based on the UTAUT2 model.FindingsThe findings reveal that performance expectancy, trust, hedonic motivation and price value significantly enhance the intention to invest in cryptocurrencies, with performance expectancy acting as a mediator. Effort expectancy is not directly related to behavioural intention; however, it positively impacts performance expectancy, validating the mediation hypothesis. Trust affects both the intention to use and the performance expectancy, reinforcing its role as a mediator in cryptocurrency adoption. Hedonic motivation and price value also positively affect the intention to use cryptocurrency. In contrast, social influence and facilitating conditions do not significantly impact behavioural intention, suggesting that cryptocurrency adoption decisions are less influenced by external opinions or the availability of necessary conditions. The findings also show that the demographic profiles of the cryptocurrency users were young, educated males, which suggests a demographic skew in cryptocurrency usage in Jordan.Originality/valueThis study innovatively adapts the UTAUT2 model, focusing on the mediating role of performance expectancy between effort expectancy, trust, and behavioural intention. This study pioneers by examining the mediation effect of performance expectancy, showing how users' ease in using cryptocurrencies positively affects their belief in positive outcomes, subsequently influencing their behavioural intention to use cryptocurrencies. Moreover, this study sheds light on the factors driving cryptocurrency adoption in developing countries like Jordan. It also underscores the demographic trends in cryptocurrency use and proposes targeted recommendations for policymakers and cryptocurrency platforms to foster more inclusive and informed investment environments.
