Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of CUG-linked protein 1 (CUGBP1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in bladder cancer and its clinical significance. Methods Eighty cases of postoperative bladder cancer tissues (bladder cancer group) and 80 cases of para-carcinoma tissues of bladder cancer (paracance group) in Shanxi Cancer Hospital from January 2016 to August 2017 were collected. Immunohistochemistry (SP) method was used to detect the expressions of CUGBP1 and VEGF in the two groups. The differences of expression in tumors with different diameter, differentiation degree, pathological stage, lymph node metastasis and depth of invasion were analyzed. Results The positive expression rates of CUGBP1 and VEGF in bladder cancer tissues were 61.25% and 66.25%, respectively, and 10.00% and 13.75% in para-carcinoma tissues, respectively, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between the expression of CUGBP1 and VEGF in the bladder cancer tissues (Spearman rank correlation coefficient=0.527, P<0.05). The positive expression rate of CUGBP1 in moderately and poorly differentiated bladder cancer, T3 stage and lymph node metastasis group was higher than that in highly differentiated, T2 stage and non-lymph node metastasis group (P<0.05). The positive expression rate of vascular endothelial growth factor was higher in moderately and poorly differentiated bladder cancer, T3 stage, lymph node metastasis and myometrial invasion than in highly differentiated, T2 stage, non-lymph node metastasis and myometrial invasion of bladder cancer (P<0.05). Conclusions The expression of CUGBP1 and vascular endothelial growth factor in bladder cancer tissues is high, which is correlated with the pathological characteristics of bladder cancer.
