Abstract
Objectives To detect the expression of transient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8) in corpus cavernosum and explore the possible role of TRPM8 in erectile. Methods Quantitative real time RT-PCR was performed to examine the mRNA expression of TRPM8. Immunofluorescence staining was also conducted to identify the cellular localization of the encoded protein. Results The higher mRNA expression of TRPM8 was detected, with levels equivalent to (0.35±0.147)% of GAPDH. Increased TRPM8 protein was localized to the endothelium and smooth muscle in the penile corpus cavernosum. Conclusions The increased expression of TRPM8 in penile corpus cavernosum might play a role in penile erection. Key words: Corpus Cavernosum; Rats; trasient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8
