Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of B7-H1,B7-H4 and forkhead box P3 (Foxp3) in gastric carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods The expression of B7-H1,B7-H4 and Foxp3 was detected by using IHC in 100 gastric carcinomas, and the relationship between the expression of B7-H1,B7-H4 and Foxp3 with clinicopathological features was statistically analyzed. Results Both B7-H1 and B7-H4 showed high expression in gastric carcinoma tissues (65.0% and 71.0%).The expression of B7-H1 and B7-H4 proteins was positively correlated to the depth of tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage. The positive expression rate of B7-H1 and B7-H4 in the patient with less than 5-year survival was obviously higher than that in the patients with more than 5-year survival (P < 0.05).High expression of Foxp3 + regulatory T cells (Treg) cells in gastric cancer tissues was correlated to lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05).Statistical analysis also showed that the expression of B7-H1 and B7-H4 protein was positively correlated to the number of Foxp3 + Treg cells (r =0.437,P < 0.05 ; r =0.456,P <0.05).Conclusion B7-H1,B7-H4 and Foxp3 + Treg cells were up-regulated in gastric cancer tissues, and may be correlated to gastric carcinoma metastasis and prognosis. Key words: Gastric cancer; Costimulatory molecule; Forkhead box P3
