Abstract

The sustainability discourse is gaining centrality in a variety of settings. For this discourse to take wider and deeper roots, it is crucial to understand the basic behavioral requirements as well as behavioral nuances pertaining to sustainability in a wider perspective. The path leading to sustainability may require some core behaviors along with their compatible enablers that may influence them. This study explores the enablers of pro-sustainability behaviors of top management in a global context using Netnography. Discussing sustainability from the perspective of triple bottom line - comprising environmental, societal, and economic aspects - and using the identified enablers of pro-sustainability behaviors in a global context, this study proposes a conceptual framework under the theoretical realm of the Upper Echelon Theory. The findings suggest that simultaneous and concerted attention to multiple enablers of pro-sustainability behaviors may help the top management to make greater progress toward sustainability. The findings offer some important implications for management practitioners and policy makers.
