Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper explores the potential of BMX (Bicycle Motocross) as a tool for wellbeing promotion. Drawing from empirical research, we investigate the impact of BMX participation on various aspects of wellbeing and belonging among riders aged 18 years and older. Utilising a qualitative approach, we discuss the potential benefits of BMX participation, including mental and physical health as well as belonging. Additionally, the study underscores the importance of understanding the diverse experiences and needs of BMX riders to develop targeted wellbeing promotion and prevention interventions. Overall, this paper contributes to the growing body of literature on alternative sports as avenues for wellbeing improvement and prevention strategies, emphasising the potential of BMX as a tool in promoting wellbeing among riders.
