Abstract
In this paper, a comprehensive investigation of the cooling system of HVDC converter substations in China is conducted. At present, land-based HVDC converter substations mainly use air-water cooling mode, water-water cooling mode, and water-water series connecting with air-water cooling mode. It is out of date that the external cooling system of the offshore VSC-HVDC converter substation, which is the world's most expensive estate, continues to use the land-based converter substation. The author has sorted out two cooling methods for the offshore VSC-HVDC converter substation. One is the independent form of HVAC, and the other is the parallel form of HVAC and converter valve cooling system. In this paper, the energy analysis of these two types of offshore VSC-HVDC converter substations is mainly conducted in the energy management system mode, and the multi-energy complementarity is proposed to provide as an energy center source for the heat sources of offshore VSC-HVDC converter substations.
