Abstract

The positron source TEPOS at the Giessen LINAC of the Strahlenzentrum delivers intense beams in the energy range between few 10 eV and 5 keV; with postacceleration up to about 80 keV. Results for remoderation of the positrons will be discussed. Energy‐losses of positrons in thin aluminum and gold foils at incident energies of 6–20 keV were measured. The results are presented shortly. Relative cross sections for K‐ and L‐shell ionization of silver and gold targets by positron and electron impact were determined at projectile energies of 30–70 keV. The cross sections for positrons decrease more rapidly towards threshold than for electrons. Calculations in plane wave Born approximation (PWBA) which take into account the Coulomb interaction with the target nucleus will also be discussed.
