Abstract

Extensive experimental investigations were carried out on several models for the verification of values of resonant frequencies and vibration behaviour of stators of electrical machines. Each model was designed to serve a specific purpose in the verification process. The experimental arrangement adopted for conducting the investigations is such that it fulfils all the important requirements for accurate measurements. The approach followed in carrying out the verification process proved to be successful in examining closely the several aspects of the natural response of stators. In this part of the paper, details of the experimental models as well as the specific objectives of the experimental investigations on each model are given. Important features of the experimental arrangement, including the mounting system, the excitation system, and the measuring system, are discussed. The nature and method of identification of several types of parasitic resonances which interfere with the actual resonances of the models are presented. The results of the experimental investigations are reported in Part 2 of the paper.
