Abstract

AbstractThe relatively new fibre optic measurement technique: distributed fibre optic sensing (DFOS) is provided to control strains and displacements, used in the structural health monitoring of a decommissioned wind turbine blade (WTB) bridge girder. The DFOS system is characterized by the following features: accurate, reliable and continuous strain measurements, possibility of assessing shape and displacements, detection of local damages, high durability. Exemplary results of DFOS measurements performed under laboratory conditions on the full‐scale WTB bridge girder are presented. The paper describes the concept of the WTB bridge girder with integrated DFOS monitoring system to control the girder's behavior under loading. Exemplary data of DFOS efficiency were presented and the overall accuracy and reliability of the DFOS measurement system were revealed.
