Abstract

AbstractEmotional stress causes a lot of diseases due to release of high doses of epinephrine in the blood. Further epinephrine oxidizes to adrenochrome with formation of the superoxide radical, which is very active and can cause apoptosis. Therefore, a targeted search of new active compounds that could protect organisms from free radicals is a perspective line of development of new ischemia-reperfusion injury correctors and cardio-vascular drugs. We decided to investigate taurine—a well-known endogenic antioxidant and membrane protector - during chronic epinephrine intoxication in rats. Our experiments have shown that therapeutic administration of taurine reduced cerebral metabolic disorders and prevented cerebral lipid peroxidation during chronic epinephrine intoxication.KeywordsTaurineChronic epinephrine intoxicationAdrenochromeAdrenaline
