Abstract

Stark widths of some sulphur and fluorine spectral lines emitted by a wall-stabilised arc have been measured in order to provide simple relations for practical diagnostics. Different mixtures of SF6, H2 and Ar were used and end-on or side-on observations were performed in order to yield information about the electronic concentration and temperature. An alternative method of electronic density diagnostics is proposed by measuring the relative dip between two close lines of the 4s 5S0-5p 5P multiplet of SI.
