Abstract

A shadow visualization of turbulent exchange between vortex ring containing fluid less dense than that out of it and surrounding medium is performed. A characteristic distance and time of this process are determined and the dependence of time on both vortex velocity and the related Reynolds number is obtained. Using characteristic time, the turbulent diffusion coefficient in the vortex atmosphere is estimated.
