Abstract
The Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) is an interesting solution for telecom operators to deliver triple-play services in wide area optical Gigabit Ethernet networks. However, to be fully reliable such packet networks need protection and restoration capabilities: this is the topic of this paper where we report experimental investigations on restoration techniques in a VPLS environment. The tests have been carried out in a real wide area optical testbed and we compared different techniques.
