Abstract

This paper investigates the finite element simulation of sinter-forged aluminium trapezoidal preforms under cold conditions. The basic experimental work includes the production of sinter-forged aluminium trapezoidal preforms and compression of the preforms to perform load- deformation analysis. DEFORM software was considered for the finite element analysis. The stress strain data set was added to the DEFORM library and appropriate sticking and sliding friction conditions were modelled. The forging process was simulated with 20 stepped die stroke movement with 0.22 mm of equal steps. The distribution of effective strain rate, effective stress, effective strain, average die load, total energy dissipation and flow velocity was critically investigated. The present work can be helpful for investigating various deformation characteristics during forging of sintered materials.
