Abstract

The visualization of phase change process of phase change material (PCM) for thermal management of 18650 lithium-ion battery was studied by experimental method. The configuration consists of a semi-cylindrical battery allocated in the center of a semi-concentric housing made of aluminum, composite PCM and a transparent plate of 3 mm thick made of acrylics. The results show that the composite PCM/copper foam has better thermal performance. Moreover, the leakage problem can be solved by encapsulating composite PCM into closed bags made of aluminum plastic film.
