Abstract

Solid desiccant wheel is considered as a promising alternative to reduce humidity ratio of air. In this present work humidity ratio, adsorption rate and desiccant wheel effectiveness were experimentally investigated on silica gel based solid desiccant wheel for hot and humid weather of Vadodara, Gujarat, India. Experimental studies have been analysed in the month of July on the basis of various ambient outdoor conditions. The regeneration temperature of air has been varied from 60 to 80°C and process air flow rate has taken as 0.07 kg/s during the experimental studies. Speed of solid desiccant wheel has been kept constant at 20 revolution per hour. Experimental studies of solid-desiccant dehumidifier reveal that the system can achieve better performance in hot and humid climatic conditions due to significant reduction in humidity ratio of process air from 10.138 (g/kg of dry air) to 5.983 (g/kg of dry air) which is around 59.01%. Regeneration air temperature is directly affecting humidity ratio, adsorption rate and desiccant wheel effectiveness. The analysed results revelated that the system performance is highly influenced by outdoor conditions of process air.
