Abstract

The results of experiments on strain-rate behaviour for technically pure lead are given. Experiments were performed in compression using cylindrical specimens of different slenderness ratios over a wide range of strain-rate 2 × 10 −3 s −1 < ϵ ̇ < 2 × 10 3 s −1 . For high strain-rates the SHPB technique was employed. Small instabilities in the flow stress at low deformation levels both in static and dynamic compression, were observed. Numerical values of strain-rate sensitivity for the lead investigated were found and compared with the results from other sources.
