Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper presents a nonlinear model of a novel three-dimensional oblique rotating friction seismic isolator (3D ORFSI). A quasistatic test of the device was conducted, and the results showed that devices processed a plump hysteretic loop in the vertical isolation direction, which agreed with the theoretical prediction. The effects of different parameters were evaluated using a mathematical model. The proposed mathematical model was then applied to assess the seismic response of an 8-story concrete-frame building with horizontal isolators and the 3D ORFSI.
