Abstract

Goal. Explore the possibility of determining the zone of protection of lightning rod shafts under laboratory conditions. Urgency of work. Taking into account that protection of isolation of equipment of traction substations and contact network in traction power devices from atmospheric and switching overvoltage is currently relevant. In this regard, the definition of the zone of lightning rod protection in the laboratory is of practical interest, increases the efficiency of the educational process at the department and allows for the training of highly skilled specialists in the field of traction power supply. Results. This article describes the consequences of the development of a lightning strike between the cloud and the earth. The history of the formation of the principles of protection against direct lightning strikes is noted. The requirements for rod lightning rods are specifiedThe results of the experimental determination of the protection zone of the rod lightning-produced, obtained on models in the high-voltage laboratory of the University, are presented. A description of the circuit diagram of a high-voltage test facility is given. Based on the tests carried out, a calculated expression was obtained to determine the radius of the protection zone of the rod lightning rod model. Such studies will improve the quality of the learning process when studying ways to protect against direct lightning strikes of traction power supplies.
