Abstract

Several Ge crystals doped with Ga were grown by the “bottom seeded” vertical Bridgman technique under normal earth gravity and high gravity using a centrifuge. The segregation parameters evaluated from the measured axial dopant distributions indicate that the convective solute transport can be reduced during growth in a centrifuge. These experimental results are confirmed by a theoretical analysis indicating clearly that the action of the Coriolis force compensates partly the action of the buoyancy force.
