Abstract
During the bending process, both tensile and compressive stresses act on material layers. An estimation of the stress values can be based on information taken from a standard tensile test, but this method cannot take into account some of the complex effects that take place during bending. However, it is possible to obtain experimental material characteristics from a pure moment bending test. Such characteristics include the complexity of the process, as well as the material elastic and plastic properties. A special device was developed to carry out pure moment bending tests on microspecimens. In the case of very small elements, the microstructure of the workpiece plays a key role in the mechanism of plastic deformation. The influence of grain size has been investigated and analysed for a 0.1 mm thick copper sheet.
