Abstract
Transformer oil provides insulation and cooling for high voltage power transformers and distribution transformers. For transmission of ultra-high voltage ac and dc power, it is desirable to develop a new kind of oil paper insulation system having higher dielectric strength and cooling capability as compare to conventional insulation system. In order to reduce the transformer volume and mass, several methods of improving the dielectric strength have been widely investigated. Recently transformer oil-based Nano fluids have been developed by dispersing nanoparticles in the transformer oil. In this paper Fe 3 O 4 , TiO 2 and Fe-Cu nanoparticles are dispersed in transformer oil to determine the effect on ac breakdown strength and relative permittivity. Sphere-Sphere and Mushroom-Mushroom configuration are used for the determination of ac breakdown strength. A comparative analysis between nanoparticles to determine maximum enhancement in the ac breakdown strength is done in the present study.
