Abstract

The interaction of a plasma stream with a three-dimensional dipole has been experimentally investigated. The time-resolved photographs, magnetic probe and Rogowski coil measurement, and double probe measurement showed the intrusion of plasma in the magnetic cavity. Plasma and current distribution is found to be asymmetric with respect to the plasma gun-dipole line and the direction of the current in the magnetic cavity corresponds to the westward one around the earth.
