Abstract

Abstract Under conventional sodium treatment and with hardness, alumina and silica in quantity entering the cycle through condenser leakage, wall-tube losses in two 1350-psi boilers were extensive. Upon establishment of potassium treatment in these boilers under the then controlled equilibria, tube losses continued. A direct comparison of sodium versus potassium treatments was started in these boilers after solvent-cleaning them. This test has been under way only 7 months during which no wall-tube failures have occurred.
