  • Thelma Colanzi + 6 more

University Extension is an educational, cultural, and scientific process that establishes the exchange between academic and popular knowledge. Project-Based Learning (PjBL) consists of allowing students to confront the issues and problems of the world through a real project. PjBL has been adopted in Software Engineering (SE) teaching to motivate and engage students in studying and applying processes and methods. In this work, the university extension was integrated with the PjBL in teaching SE in a postgraduate course to bring students closer to real practices of software development, meeting a demand from the State of notorious value for society. Interviews were conducted with stakeholders, artifacts were delivered, and students received feedback from the professor and the stakeholders. Through a questionnaire, the students provided feedback about the practical activity, the learning method, and their perceptions regarding their evolution and dedication to group work. We can highlight the following findings: (i) the use of PjBL together with extension and the development of a real project was promising for the evolution of learning; (ii) greater motivation of the students, who evaluated: (iii) the learning method as satisfactory, and (iv) the practical activity and their evolution of learning as good and excellent. Our main contribution is the lessons learned that might guide future experiences that adopt PjBL in SE teaching and extension.

AMARAL, Ana Clara Oliveira dos Santos; CAVALCANTE, Andressa de Moraes; RAMOS, Gabrielle Barreto; LINO, Isabela Corrêia; COELHO, Jamille Moraes; SANTOS, João Victor Rocha dos; FERREIRA, Karolany Gomes da Silva; PEREIRA, Mariana dos Santos; SILVA, Raphaella Vieira Varela da; SOUZA, Thaís Roberta da Silva. The invisibility of HTLV in the context of public health: report of an extension experience in health education. 11 p. Experience report (Nursing) – Veiga de Almeida University, Rio de Janeiro. 2025. The Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus (HTLV) is a sexually transmitted infection that is widely neglected in Brazil, both by the population and by health professionals. Despite the high prevalence, especially of the HTLV-1 type, associated with serious diseases such as tropical spastic paraparesis (TSP) and adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL), the virus remains invisible in public health strategies. This negligence jeopardizes early diagnosis, transmission control and comprehensive care for infected individuals. In light of this scenario, an educational activity was developed at Veiga de Almeida University, Tijuca campus, with the aim of promoting knowledge about HTLV among university students. The activity used active and playful methodologies, such as oral presentation, graphic materials, interactive dynamics and questionnaires before and after the intervention. Eighty-three students participated, mostly young women. The results demonstrated a significant increase in the level of knowledge about HTLV after the action, especially regarding the forms of transmission, lack of cure and importance of early diagnosis. Most participants recognized the relevance of the topic, highlighting the positive impact of educational intervention. The experience reinforces the importance of health education as a strategic tool in Primary Health Care, aligned with the principles of the National Policy for Popular Health Education. It is concluded that participatory educational initiatives are essential to give visibility to HTLV and promote the fight against neglected sexually transmitted infections. Keywords: HTLV; Health education; Sexually transmitted infections; University extension; Early diagnosis.

  • Janaina Medeiros De Souza + 5 more

The scope of this study is to identify what empowerment strategies were addressed for the promotion of health in health research, characterizing them from a socio-critical and post-structuralist standpoint. It involved an Integrative Review conducted in May 2011 of the Medline, Lilacs and SciELO databases. The inclusion criteria were complete research articles, case reports or experience reports, published between 2002 and 2011 in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The research criteria included the key words "empowerment" and "health promotion" (DeCS/BIREME). Twenty articles, which presented strategies of individual and/or social empowerment that were characterized by a socio-critical perspective, were selected. It is considered that some activities, mainly those that included thematic discussion groups, represented a mobilization and empowerment strategy. These included theater, culture circles, community therapy, therapeutic learning workshops, home visits, university extension and social action projects. It is considered that all empowerment strategies are inherently health promotion strategies, but not all health promotion strategies effectively result in empowerment.

  • ACTIO: Docência em Ciências
  • Lenilda Austrilino + 2 more

This article presents the results of a research conducted in order to identify the potential of the performance model of the Itinerant Caravan of Science and Technology of Alagoas, as a strategy for professional training, developed under a university extension project. A qualitative approach research was carried out, characterized as a case study, through the experience report. The reports of the 15 editions of the project (2005 to 2019), field diary entries, responses to the evaluation questionnaires applied to the participants, as well as personal historical files of the coordination. All reports were approved by the project's partner institutions and funders. For the organization and analysis of the data, the document analysis technique was used. The selected documents were systematized from the perspective of content analysis, in the thematic modality aiming to identify the importance of itinerancy for university extension and the scope of the action for professional training. The results show the trajectory of the S&T Caravan and the importance of itinerancy for university extension and professional training. The performance model favors the inseparability of teaching, research and extension by promoting scientific dissemination activities taking the knowledge produced at the university to communities with less access to education and more distant from urban centers. The action-reflection-action movement carried out by the members of the group "caravaneiros" benefits the professional formation, by developing skills and competences necessary to disseminate the knowledge produced. The extension experiences provide an opportunity to capture talents for science, favoring professional training, and the conversion of their participation into academic credits is salutary. The movement also stimulates scientific dissemination, contributing for the population to know and reflect about the relevance of science, technology, their applications and social, environmental and ethical implications, empowering participants to build their own knowledge.

Territory Mapping as a Citizen Education Tool: A Community Extension Approach from SENAI CIMATEC University
  • Feb 25, 2026
  • JOURNAL OF BIOENGINEERING, TECHNOLOGIES AND HEALTH
  • Marilda Ferreira Guimarães + 4 more

In 2018, the Ministry of Education implemented Resolution No. 7, which establishes guidelines for extension in Higher Education and makes it a part of the curriculum. This new model seeks to strengthen the social commitment of Higher Education Institutions by promoting social participation. At SENAI CIMATEC University, university extension was restructured with the creation of the Community Extension Center (NEC) in 2024. The NEC works to develop extension programs that incorporate the principles of Popular Education and Citizen Education, promoting social development and integrating teaching and research. To identify community needs, the NEC adopted the Territory Mapping tool, in which students conduct a sociocultural assessment of the location, understanding its physical, political, and cultural dimensions. The territory mapping was conducted by Mechanical Engineering and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence students between March and July 2025. This work aimed to report on the experience of the NEC team and the students, addressing the main stages of the mapping, student feedback, and the identification of potential projects. The first part of the mapping investigated basic infrastructure and environmental and cultural aspects. The second part addressed community participation, economic issues, security, and cultural manifestations. The most frequently identified cultural manifestations were music, dance, sports, graffiti, and crafts. Through their experience reports, the students demonstrated their involvement and knowledge of local realities. Territory mapping proved to be an effective tool for civic education, allowing students to connect with the realities of their communities and awakening the desire to develop relevant extension projects. The mapping results, including the identification of infrastructure, environmental risks, and cultural manifestations, will serve as a basis for future extension projects, strengthening the relationship between teaching, research, and extension, in line with the objectives of SENAI CIMATEC University.
