Abstract

With the rise of globalization, overseas assignments have greatly increased over the last several decades. However, the high rate of expatriate failures is a concern to multinational corporations due to the cost of such failures. While many definitions of failure have been identified, lack of adjustment can be attributed to all. The goal of this paper is to integrate expatriate selection and training best practices in order to maximize adjustment. Multiple studies have examined measures for successful expatriate adjustment. We examined the expatriate literature and provided a framework that integrates the selection and training variables discussed throughout.
