Abstract

Recent progress in deriving a precise renormalization group description for various exclusive and semi-exclusive hadronic processes is reviewed. Processes described at high energy by precise Callan-Symanzik equations are distinguished from those in which the mass-singularities fail to factorize. It is pointed out that in gauge theories such nonfactorization is frequently accompanied by the appearance of Sudakov factors. A further distinction is drawn between processes in which Sudakov suppresion may lead to a restoration of renormalization group behavior, with a hard-scattering expansion and those in which the suppression appears ineffective in restoring such an expansion.
