Abstract

The excitation of radial pulsations in the hot extreme helium star V652 Her (BD+13°3224) is investigated by using new opacity tables given by Rogers & Iglesias. Unlike previous attempts using old opacities, it is found that the kappa mechanism caused by an opacity bump located where the temperature is about 2×10 5 K is strong enough to excite the fundamental radial pulsations in V652 Her. It is suggested that the iron abundance of V652 Her should be similar to the solar value
