Abstract

Elastic and inelastic scattering of deuterons, 3He and alpha particles by 89Y have been measured in the angular range from 7 degrees to about 30 degrees (lab) at incident energies of 83, 135 and 172.5 MeV, respectively. The elastic data were analysed in terms of the standard optical model. The energy spectra of the different particles show strong excitation of the giant resonance region around Ex approximately 14.5 MeV. The FWHM width of the giant resonance peak is about the same, approximately 4.5 MeV for each of the three types of incident particle. The angular distributions of the giant resonance bump are described by DWBA calculations with L=2 transfer. The derived value for the depletion of the corresponding isoscalar quadrupole energy-weighted sum rule strength is about 60% for all three particle types.
