Abstract
In the "Laser Wakefield Accelerator" scheme a large amplitude electron plasma wave is excited by a single laser pulse, with some important advantages on the beat-wave and particle wake-field schemes. For the case of very short laser pulses (femtoseconds), the plasma wave can possibly grow to even larger amplitudes due to Raman forward scattering inside the pulse broad frequency spectrum.
