Abstract

The paper describes a universal adaptive fuzzy logic controller (FLC) structure with its application to the excitation control of a synchronous generator. The proposed system features an automatic learning mechanism which enables online updating and tuning of the global input and output ranges of the FLC as well as an implicit tuning and updating of the controller classes and rules. The online tuning of the controller parameters is achieved via new concepts of fuzzy logic design. These novel concepts have been developed and implemented for the purpose of improving the efficiency of fuzzy learning based on the fuzzy logic controller status and the system performance. The proposed system has been tested for excitation control on a laboratory setup of a synchronous generator connected to an infinite bus where it has proved efficient and robust under different conditions.
