Abstract

Excess molar enthalpies for (1,4-dicyanobutane + benzene, or methyl benzene, or 1,2-dimethyl benzene, or 1,3-dimethyl benzene, or 1,4-dimethyl benzene, or ethyl benzene) atT= 298.15 K and p= 101325 Pa are presented. The excess enthalpy ranges from a maximum of 246 J · mol−1for ethyl benzene to a minimum of −17 J · mol−1for benzene. The Redlich–Kister equation, the NRTL and UNIQUAC models were used to correlate the data. The contributions of π–π interactions and steric hindrance to the results are discussed.
