Abstract
Performance management has been receiving considerable attention, with practitioners and researchers looking for ways to improve its effectiveness. Related aspects that need attention are employee participation in the performance management process and their perceived knowledge regarding it. This article explores the relationship between performance management process dimensions (viz., performance planning and continuous feedback) and perceived system knowledge via employee participation in the context of performance management. The data was collected using a questionnaire survey of software professionals in four Indian software multinational organisations. The results reveal that employee participation mediates the relationship between performance management process dimensions and perceived system knowledge. Implications of the findings and limitations of the study are discussed.
