Purpose In the Asian context, the concept of “relationship” is ambiguous, as it goes beyond elements such as time or collaboration commonly found in the academic literature. The purpose of this research is to better understand relationships between multimodal transport services (MTS), Logistics Service Value (LSV), Relationship Quality (RQ) and Guanxi (GX) on shippers' Business Performance (BP). Design/methodology/approach A survey was conducted with data collected from the Thai National Shippers' Council members, and a structural equation model was developed with proposed hypothesized relationships. The proposed empirical model was statistically validated. Findings The results have shown that both MTS and LSV show a negative impact on BP when moderated by RQ and GX. This indicates that the involvement of these two factors has a significant influence on shippers' BP. Originality/value The results of this research can provide future researchers and practitioners with insights on understanding the impact of relationships in Asian countries.

Evaluating supply chain relationship quality, organisational resources, technological innovation and enterprise performance in the palm oil processing sector in Asia
  • Jun 30, 2014
  • Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing
  • Yew Chong Tan + 1 more

Purpose– This paper aims to evaluate the relationship between organisational resources, technological innovation, relationship quality and enterprise performance, as well as the mediating effect of firm–supplier RQ.Design/methodology/approach– A survey was conducted of the palm oil processing sector in Malaysia, consisting milling, refining and oleo-chemical companies. Data were gathered and used to statistically test hypotheses that underpinned a proposed conceptual model.Findings– Organisational resources have a direct impact on RQ, which, in turn, has a direct effect on performance indicators such as financial performance, market effectiveness and strategic objectives. RQ is a mediator in some of the resource-performance relationships, which underpins the genesis of the research undertaken. The mediating role played by RQ in promoting business performance in the palm oil processing sectors, is achieved through translating the effects of organisational resources into improved business performance.Research limitations/implications– The main limitation of this study lies in its cross-sectional nature. A single respondent was drawn from each company, and information from each respondent was obtained only once and at a single point in time.Practical implications– The results offer some suggestions to top management, e.g. on the type of resources to invest in and exploring vital relational issues that enhance performance outcomes and the impact of different sets of resources on relational dynamics.Originality/value– Very little is known about the application of resource-based view in the Asian context, or how RQ affects business performance from the East Asian perspective. By confirming the strong impact of RQ on business performance in the Asian context, the study adds value by providing evidence from the East. The study also makes a contextual contribution, by demonstrating the applicability of the observed relationships among palm oil processing companies from a non-Western, collectivist society.

The Effects of Business Digitalization and Knowledge Management Practices on Business Performance: Findings from Indonesian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises
  • May 30, 2022
  • BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi
  • Rosdiana Sijabat

Studies analyzing the link between business digitalization, knowledge management practices, and business performance are rare, especially within the context of Indonesian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). As such, this study investigates the effects of business digitalization and knowledge management practices on the performance of MSMEs. It thus offers novel insight into the mediative influence of knowledge management on the digitalization and performance of MSMEs. Primary data, collected from 95 entrepreneurs involved in MSMEs, were used to test four hypotheses regarding the effect of business digitalization on knowledge management practices and business performance using a structural equation model. This study finds that digitalization has a positive and significant effect on the knowledge management practices and business performance of MSMEs. It also finds that knowledge management practices have a positive and significant effect on business performance, as it partially mediates the influence of digitalization on business performance. This mediative influence, thus, is an important factor that should be considered when attempting to accurately describe the link between business digitalization and performance. These findings indicate that MSMEs in Indonesia should better explore the potential benefits of digitalization. Likewise, entrepreneurs and managers should attempt to better understand, adopt, and implement digital business and knowledge management practices. These practical recommendations stem from the theoretical findings of this study, i.e., that knowledge management plays an important role in the digitalization of business activities, thereby improving business performance.

Service quality is not just quality of what is delivered (core quality). However, the quality of how the service is delivered (relational quality) can be put into service quality dimensions. Other aspect that could be considered by customer to make a decision to choose which service that they would use was perceived value. Customers always compare what they had to pay with what they received. And it could impact to behavioral intentions. This research investigated the relationship between three elements – core service quality, relational service quality and perceived value – and customer satisfaction and future intentions in service industry. Using structural equation modeling, results of this research revealed that three service elements were important drivers of customer satisfaction, further, show that perceived value was the most important driver of customer satisfaction and relational quality was more important driver of customer satisfaction than core quality. It related with a kind of the service that was used in this research, high contact service. Beside that, a direct link between customer satisfaction and future intentions was established. A major conclusion was that both perceived value and service quality dimensions should be incorporated into customer satisfaction models to provide a more complete picture of drivers of satisfaction. Keywords: Core quality, Relational quality, Value, Customer satisfaction, Switch intentions, Loyalty intentions, High contact service.

The analysis of interorganizational relationships continues to attract academic research because of the influence that management of supply chain relationships has in business competitiveness. However, there are almost no studies about this decision in the mineral products industry. The purpose of this study is to investigate customer-supplier relationships in the non-metallic mineral products mining and manufacturing industry in order to determine what relational forms enable achieving better business competitiveness and higher quality relationships. To carry out this research, we propose a cohesive model comprising variables to characterize the transactions, the forms of governance and both economic and relational results. The paper is based on a transactional framework; thus, the adoption of one or another form of governance is addressed through the length of the relationship, the transmission of information and the dependencies between the agents. As for the outcome, the quality of the relationship is highlighted because of its importance in business competitiveness. The relational quality is understood as the stability of the relationship or the importance given by the buyer to maintaining the relationship or relational commitment. The hypotheses generated are contrasted by a structural equation model in a sample of 293 Spanish companies. The results confirm the importance of past relationships and integrated forms to get better results. In this sense, managers should encourage trust and dependencies because they positively affect performance. Trust and dependencies determine the choice of a vertical form of governance, and these factors, along with information, intervene in the quality of business relationships. Thus, it is possible to say that forms of governance do have effects on the interrelations between the characteristics of the transactions and the business performance.

The Role of E-Accounting Adoption on Business Performance: The Moderating Role of COVID-19
  • Dec 19, 2022
  • Journal of Risk and Financial Management
  • Abdalwali Lutfi + 9 more

In the last decade, information systems (ISs) have made dynamic developments in light of their ability to enhance the performances of businesses. In relation to this, an organization that is effectively and efficiently managed often displays optimum performance using financial systems such as electronic accounting (e-accounting). Thus, essentially, e-accounting is utilized for the automation of operational processes and for improving business efficiency and performance. More currently, e-accounting dynamic development has laid credence to the performance of businesses in a way that the influence cannot be exaggerated. Nevertheless, past studies evidenced that successful e-accounting depends on critical success factors, and hence this study primarily aims to conduct an evaluation of e-accounting using DeLone and McLean’s information system model (DM ISM) among firms in Jordan. More specifically, this study determines the influence of information quality, system quality, service quality, system usage, and user satisfaction on business performance. The current study adopted a quantitative method, applying a self-administered survey questionnaire for the purpose of data collection from 104 e-accounting users. This study employed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to validate the data, and based on the findings, system quality and information quality affect system use; service quality of e-accounting had no significant impact on use, but e-accounting use had a significant influence on the satisfaction of users. Moreover, e-accounting system use and user satisfaction positively influence business performance. This study is an extension of the current IS literature, particularly of those focused on determining the effects of e-accounting benefits. This study validated the proposed model in the context of Jordanian firms and contributes to both the literature on and practice of e-accounting. This study provided implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research.

  • Sourav Rampal + 5 more

Effective leadership and knowledge sharing have been recognized as critical components of organizational success; however, their direct and mediated relationships with business performance have remained insufficiently explored. In this study, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to investigate the impact of leadership styles and knowledge-sharing practices on business performance. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 27. It was found that knowledge-sharing behavior was significantly influenced by effective leadership, which, in turn, contributed to improvements in business strategy and performance. Furthermore, the relationship between leadership and business performance was shown to be mediated by knowledge-sharing behavior. The findings indicated that organizations characterized by strong leadership and a culture of information sharing demonstrated superior strategic and operational performance. The proposed hypotheses were supported through regression analysis, and the measurement model’s validity and reliability were confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. These results underscore the importance of promoting knowledge-sharing practices within organizations and suggest that leadership plays a pivotal role in facilitating such behavior. The intermediary role of knowledge sharing in the management-performance dynamic was further elucidated, offering practical insights for enhancing organizational efficiency. The study highlights the necessity for organizations to adopt leadership approaches that cultivate a culture of knowledge exchange, as such practices have been shown to positively affect business performance. Firms that prioritize leadership effectiveness and encourage open knowledge flows are more likely to thrive in competitive markets. These findings offer strategic recommendations for companies seeking to strengthen their performance through the development of leadership models that support effective knowledge sharing, ultimately contributing to sustained organizational success.

  • June-Young Rha

From an intermediary customer perspective, this study empirically investigates the causal relationships between service quality, relationship quality, design quality, and customer satisfaction in the public service value chain. Cross-sectional survey data were collected from social work, childcare, and healthcare services and were analyzed using structural equation modeling. It is found that all the quality dimensions are antecedents to customer satisfaction and relations between quality dimensions show distinctive patterns. The results show that relationship quality does not directly affect customer satisfaction, but can indirectly influence satisfaction through the mediation of both service and design qualities. The effect of the relationship and design qualities on customer satisfaction is stronger than that of service quality.
