Abstract
This mixed-methods study examined the psychological well-being of registered nurses (RNs) working in a rural, acute care setting. The study used four instruments that measured anxiety, depression, stress, and burnout to determine psychological well-being. Data collection also included a demographic questionnaire and two open-ended questions. The quantitative findings of this mixed-methods study will be shared. The results found that participants experienced burnout, anxiety, depression, and stress. Using a post-pandemic lens this manuscript will discuss necessary traits that can be used by nurse leaders to initiate change, make improvements, and effectively prepare for the next healthcare crisis.
