Abstract

The elementary excitations (zero temperature) of a general anisotropic XY model in a transverse field in one dimension has been obtained here exactly by transforming the set of Pauli operators to a new set of Fermi operators. The zero-temperature transition driven by the transverse field can be studied exactly. For the change from the anisotropic to the isotropic XY model, the crossover in the dynamical critical behaviour, indicated in the previous renormalization-group treatments on the model, is detected and exact values of the dynamical and gap exponents etc. are obtained.
