Abstract

SummaryH+ excretion in the toad urinary bladder is increased during metabolic acidosis. A factor can be extracted from plasma of acidotic toads which stimulates H+ and NH4+ excretion by the toad urinary bladder. A factor has also been obtained from plasma of an acidotic dog which stimulates H+ and NH4+ excretion by the toad bladder. The solubility characteristics along with the concentration of the lipid fraction in the media suggest that this factor is hormonal in nature.
