Abstract

ABSTRACT Surface microtextures provide evidence of both overgrowths on, and solution of, many detrital minerals, but until now overgrowths on garnets have not been reported. In this paper, previous observations and interpretations of the more common garnet surface microtextures are briefly reviewed, and garnets from some recent fluviatile sands are described in terms of surface microtexture. Evidence of both overgrowth and solution is given.
