Abstract

Abstract: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease and according to the World Health Organization, the number of deaths due to the disease may be related to the renunciation of treatment, as it favors maintenance of the transmission chain and increases the bacterial resistance to the first drugs choice. This study aimed to evaluate the recurrence of tuberculosis in the city of Juazeiro do Norte-CE in the period from 2015 to 2018 regarding the sociodemographic profile of patients, comorbidities, number of contacts, sputum smear, sputum culture. This is a cross-sectional retrospective, descriptive study. Twenty-two cases of recidivism, with a higher prevalence of males, were observed in brown individuals with low educational level. The most prevalent form was pulmonary. The prevalence of Tuberculosis is still a challenge for public health, recidivist cases deserve to be evaluated with more criteria taking into account socioeconomic and demographic aspects.
