Abstract

A new expression of the dispersion equation of the Lamb wave in anadhesive two-layered plate is presented. The bond rigidity of theadhesive plate is accounted for in terms of a spring model. Theinfluence of the variations of the compliance constants of the springon the dispersion feature of Lamb modes is numerically studied. The numerical results indicate that the deterioration of the bondrigidity may cause the phase velocity decrease and thefrequency-shift for a given Lamb mode, thus having a possibility forthe evaluation of the bonding state of the adhesive plate by usingultrasonic wave velocity measurements. The phase-tracing method is used tomeasure the phase velocities experimentally and the results for anadhesive plate of aluminium-aluminium are given to verify thetheoretical predictions.
