Abstract
A general equation for the non-linearity parameter has been derived in terms of the compressibility factor, such that it can be evaluated using any hard sphere equation of state. Then the Carnahan–Starling equation of state was used to obtain B/A values. The method was found to be useful for determining the values of the ratio B/A for liquids in which a molecule can be regarded as a hard sphere. The results of the calculations obtained are compared with values in the literature for pure liquids, and satisfactory agreement is found.
