Abstract

In this study, the mechanical and damping properties of montmorillonite (MMT)/organo-modified montmorillonite (OMMT) reinforced cement paste were investigated. The damping properties were measured by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The compressive strength of cement composites was decreased by a high dosage of MMT or OMMT. The damping capacities of OMMT-reinforced cement paste was superior to that of MMT-reinforced cement, in which the damping mechanism comprised the internal friction, external friction, and multiphase friction within the cement matrix. Moreover, a constrained-layer damping structure was produced in cement paste by the organic modification of MMT and was beneficial to the damping properties of cement paste.
