Abstract
The aim ofthis study was todetermine the reference values ofcartilage damage biomarkers inthe blood and urine in76clinically healthy German Shepherd dogs. Wegrouped the dogs into 4groups byage. All thegroups were consistently made up of19dogs. The mean age and average body weight were established for allthe dog groups. The blood was collected from the venacephalica antebrachii orthe vena saphena medialis and the urine sample was taken byus-guided cystocenthesis. The biomarkers were determined using quantitative sandwich ELISA kits. The mean values ofthe biomarkers± SD were, for the urine biomarkers, CTX-I 3.29± 1.16ng/ml, CTX-II 1993.95± 777.04ng/ml, and TIMP-I 392.80± 160.56ng/ml, and for the blood biomarkers, MMP-9 89.85± 50.21ng/ml and PIICP 19.19± 7.33ng/ml. Based onthe obtained values ofthe mean 95%, weexpect astandard for CTX-I 5.05ng/ml, CTX-II 3204.26ng/ml, TIMP-I 606.64ng/ml, MMP-9187.93ng/ml, and PIICP 31.71ng/ml.
