Abstract

Blood samples were incubated with different concentrations of Hypericum perforatum (hiperico) and Mentha crispa (mint) extracts. The osmotic fragility of red blood cells (RBC) was determined and statistical analysis carried out. Significant (p < 0.05) morphological alterations were observed only with mint extract. There was also significant (p < 0.05) change in osmotic fragility with both extracts. Specific extracts products could be action on the (1) structure and/or (2) permeability of the erythrocyte membrane.
