Abstract

China has endured severe geological disasters for a long time, and various kinds of geological disasters with high frequency and wide geographical distribution have caused serious damages. Remote sensing has become an important approach to investigating and monitoring geological disasters like collapse, landslide and debris flow. The fourth China & Brazil Earth Resource Satellite (CBERS-04) provide exuberant sources for the geological disasters investigation and monitor in China. This research mainly focuses on the evaluation of panchromatic multispectral scanner's potential of application on geological hazard investigation and monitoring. The results show that the large-scale collapse, landslide, and debris flow have strong imaging features on the CBERS-04 images, with their edges and shapes are clearly shown in the images. Therefore, CBERS-04 data can meet the requirements of geological hazard investigation at 1∶ 50000 scale, thanks to its high spatial resolution, abundant spectral information and thus the capability of identifying geological hazard.
